Ok, without further ado, let’s find out how to get rid of bad dog breath!
An easy way to eliminate the odor would be a thing to celebrate, and now an option to do just that seems to exists.
Yes, that is my dog! Can you guess what breed? ;-) I have tested the brush on her, and you will find out what I and others have to say about it below…
Introducing the Orapup Tongue Cleaner
The Orapup comes from the inventor of the Orabrush, which is a tongue scraper that helps people clean their tongues to eliminate bad breath.
The inventor of the product says that when he learned that as much as 90% of bad breath comes from a dirty tongue, he invented the Orabrush. It was not long after that that people were asking for something similar that can be used on their pets.
The challenge was that a dog probably will not let you hold them down while you scrape their tongues. The solution was to find a way to let the dog to all of the work. To do that, a flavored gel (Lickies) is applied to the tongue scraper, and dogs will happily lick the tongue scraper, cleaning their tongues in the process.
The Orapup uses ultrasoft bristles that are able to clean in between the crevices in the uneven surface of your dog’s tongue. The bristle design is identical to the soft scrub brushes that surgeons use when they get prepped for surgery. The bristles loosen up bacteria that are responsible for foul odors and then four in-line scrapers will collect and remove those bacteria, helping to eliminate the cause of doggy breath.
The Orapup handle is designed to make cleaning your dog’s tongue as easy as possible. The handle allows you to hold the Orapup comfortably while putting the bristles in a vertical position. This position makes it easy for your dog to lick the bristles using the full extension of their tongues.
Some Benefits of the Orapup Tongue Cleaner
The soft bristles on the brush are perfectly safe for your dog, and the flavored gel that you apply to the brush makes it easy for you to clean your dog’s tongue. You do not have to force your dog to open their mouth while you reach inside with tools to do a cleaning. The dog will happily lick the brush, doing most of the work for you.
There are currently two flavors of gel available, beef and bacon flavor.
The gels use all natural ingredients including:
- Spring water
- Syrup from brown rice
- Flavors (all natural)
- Extract from grapefruit seeds
- Extract from grape seeds
- Papain (enzyme from papaya)
- Sodium benzoate (preservative salt)
- Potassium sorbate (aka “wine stablilizer”)
A 2 ounce bottle of the Orapup Lickies will last for approximately 20 uses.
What Customers Are Saying about the Orapup
The Orapup reviews we found online for the new product are mostly positive.
We did find one negative review on a blog from someone that said they own the Orabrush (the human version), and it works great, so they were excited about using the Orapup on their dog. They said that when they scrape their tongue with the human version of the tongue cleaner “white and sometimes yellow gunk [sic] comes off and my tongue and mouth feel much cleaner.” They said that when they use the Orapup on their dog there is none of the “gunk” that they expected to see.
Despite that one negative review, we found many positive reviews online on various blogs and forums.
A product for cleaning your dog’s mouth should obviously be easy to use. In fact, many customers are saying that the Orapup does not disappoint and that their dogs love it. We found a number of reviews from customers online saying that the Orapup works and that bad breath is a thing of the past for their dogs. Customers are also saying that the Orapup itself is easy to clean after using it.

Bad Dog Breath – Some Things to Watch out for
Although a lot of customers are saying that the Orapup works great at correcting their dog’s bad breath, it is important to note that your dog will not have minty fresh breath as if they were chewing gum or eating breath mints.
After all, we’re talking about bacon and beef flavored gels, not peppermint or wintergreen.
It will reduce or eliminate foul odors however.
It is also important to point out that a tongue scraper is not a substitution for brushing teeth or regular dental care from your veterinarian. If you use the Orapup to freshen up your dog’s breath, do not neglect the regular dental care your dog should be receiving.
Purchasing the Orapup
The Orapup is not yet available in stores, but it can be purchased online.
The checkout process is straightforward. All you need to do is select the package you want, fill out a form, and click a button. The manufacturer also offers free shipping.
The Verdict – Your Dog – Bad Breath Eliminator?
While the Orapup is not a substitution for teeth brushing or dental cleanings, it is an effective tool for reducing odor between brushing or cleanings.
The majority of the Orapup reviews we found online were from happy customers that were very impressed with the way the product works. It is hard to argue with happy customers so we would give the Orapup our recommendation.
